•For advanced lesions, entire larynx if removed with the hyoid bone, pre-epiglottis space, the strap muscles and one or more tracheal rings – •The trachea’s pharangeal opening is closed and formed into a permanent tracheostomy loss of speech and loss of normal ventilation thru the nose and mouth – •No danger of aspiration because the connection is gone between the pharynx but there is a risk of bleeding, carotid rupture, fistula formation is present
