Safety and power on checklist - Maintenance status checked. (for what?)
Verify all maintenance items are appropriate and all MEL/CDLs considered cleared. Circuit breakers are either closed or out and collared as appropriate. check for valid airworthiness and 2 day check. verify all applicable safety items are on board.
What do you do if you saw maintenance was on board the aircraft?
do not operate the controls and consult the mechanic.
GPU...OUT
What happens when the GPU pushbutton is out?
Isolates the AC GPU from the AC BUS TIE.
APU GEN....IN
What happens when this pushbutton is in?
Connects the APU generator to the AC BUS TIE provided the power is within limits. Allows automatic operation of the electrical system.
BATT 1 & 2....OFF
What happens when the battery switches are off?
Batteries 1 & 2 supply power to their respective HOT BATT BUSES
Name items on the hot battery buses?
Engine fire handles
Fuel shut off valves
hydraulic shut off valves
Engine oil level systems
Refueling panel
Water and waste system
Fuel DC pump and AC pumps 1&2...Auto
What happens when these switches are in auto?
Automatically operates the pumps according to system logic.
EMERG LT......OFF
off
WINDSHIELD WIPERS ....OFF
off
HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS 1, 2, 3B ELEC PUMPS ... AUTO

What happens when the switch is in auto?
Allows electric pumps to operate automatically according to hydraulic system logic.
HYDRAULIC SYSTEM 3 ELEC PUMP A...OFF
off
Landing gear lever....DN
down
POWERPLANT START/STOP 1&2 ....STOP
stop
Speed brake lever....CLOSE
CLOSE
Thrust levers ...idle
idle
SLAT/FLAP.....
agrees with surface position.
BATT 1....ON what is the minimum voltage?
22.5VDC
BATT 2...AUTO
22.5 VDC
What if the batteries are not 22.5 volts?
GPU can power the airplane. Chart in chapter 6 should be referenced to determine how long is necessary to recharge the batteries.
Fire test ....complete
What indications are you looking for?
That there is no FAIL fire detection/extinguishing system messages on the EICAS.

The APU fire extinguishing button and the upper half of the APU emergency stop button illuminates.

The FIRE icons are displayed on the ITT gauges.

The fire bell and master warning sound.

The fire handles illuminate.

The cargo fire buttons illuminate.

5 RED messages on the EICAS.
Electrical power/air conditioning ...Establish
established
What does the AVAIL light on the GPU switch indicate?
The AC GPU is connected and the voltage/amperage/frequency are within limits.
What is the APU starter duty limitation?
1st, 2nd 60 sec on 60 sec off
3rd.. 60 sec on 5 min off
What is the maximum altitude for APU start?
30,000\'
What is the maximum altitude for APU electrical?
33,000\'
What is the maximum altitude for assisted engine start?
21,000
What is the maximum altitude for APU bleed?
15,000
How is the APU monitored and controlled?
FADEC
What happens when you rotate the APU master switch to ON?
Powers the FADEC and opens the APU fuel SOV.
What happens when you rotate the APU master switch to off?
Initiates the normal shutdown sequence, a 1 minute cool down period begins, the APU pneumatic is removed immediately and the electrical power is removed after the 1 minute cool down period.
What happens when the APU EMERGENCY STOP button is pushed?
The APU fuel SOV closes and the APU will shut down with no cooling period.
What emergency equipment do you check for on the flight deck?
1 PBE
1 halon fire extinguisher
1 crash axe
2 flash lights
2 escape ropes
3 life vests
circuit breakers
gear and rat pins
MCDU...SET
What are you setting checking?
Verifying the NAV database currency. Initialize the FMS position on both FMS\'s. Check all CB\'s are in or MEL\'d.
DVDR Control Panel...Tested
What are you checking for with the test button?
Verify no fail messages (FDR[FWD or AFT] FAIL) displayed on EICAS.
When does the DVDR normally start recording?
After the first engine is started.
When does the DVDR turn off?
Weight on wheels and an engine not running.
ELECTRICAL PANEL...SET
What happens when the IDG selector knob is in AUTO, OFF, or DISC?
AUTO - closes the IDG contactor and allows the automatic operation of the electrical system.
OFF - opens the IDG contactor isolating the IDG from the respective AC BUS.
DISC - must be held in this position for one second to mechanically disconnect the IDG.
Can the IDG be reconnected in flight?
no
What indication would you get with an IDG low oil pressure or high oil temperature?
An amber LED next to the associated IDG switch and an associated EICAS IDG 1(2) oil illuminates.
What happens when the AC BUS TIE switch is in AUTO or 1(2) OPEN?
AUTO - allows automatic operation of the electrical system.
OPEN - isolates the respective AC BUS
What happens when the TRU 1 (2) and TRU ESS Switches are in AUTO?
Allows automatic operation of the electrical system.
What happens with the BATT 1 switch ON or OFF?
ON: The battery is connected to the DC ESS BUS 1.
OFF: The battery supplies power to the HOT BATT BUS
What happens when the DC BUS TIE switch is in AUTO or OFF?
AUTO: Allows automatic operation of the electrical system.
OFF: Opens all bus tie contactors.
What happens when BATT 2 switch is in AUTO or OFF?
AUTO: Allows automatic operation of the electrical system.
OFF: The battery supplies power to the HOT BATT BUS 2.
Why is there an AUTO position on BATT 2?
BATT 2 supplies the APU start bus during APU starting.
Is BATT 1 necessary to start the APU?
Yes, BATT 1 powers the APU FADEC.
